I was trying to recreate a hair style I saw on TV, and this is how it turned out. I usually don't love just small pieces pulled back on little girls, since I find their life expectancy is very short, but this one stayed in VERY well all day long (through several wardrobe changes and somersaults).
Start with wet hair, and I parted the front off to the side. Part in about an inch, and then an inch above the ear.
Start twisting hair tightly and pull to the back.
Since you'll be doing multiple twists, I just clipped this one back to secure.
Part off second section, grabbing the hair in front of the ear, and about another inch or so back.
Part off in same manner on other side, trying to make each section have same amount of hair.
This shows how I was twisting: Just rolling it with my thumb.
After you have both twists done on both sides, I picked up the top two twists, and started twisting them again, until they start turning in on themselves.
I secured them with an elastic, leaving some room away from the head.

And it will stay like this. I secured it here, since I didn't know where the next two would be in height, since I would be combining them.
Before I twisted the next set, I combed out the hair underneath as smooth as I could.
Since there was less hair on the right bottom twist, than it's partner on the left, it didn't twist much on its own, so I just secured it.
And twisted the top to meet the next set.

Took out the bottom elastic, and finished it down with a twist braid. I put a flower hair clip into this bottom elastic, hooking the alligator clip down into the band. See the top picture with the clip.
