Little Girl's Hairstyles--Provident Living

This is something I feel strongly about, and wanted to share it with all of you. We can never be too prepared.

Little Girl's Hairstyles - Hairbow Do 10-15 min

Be sure to check out my giveaway below this post!! It's just for you Moms!!

This hairbow do is a work in progress. It's definitely NOT perfected. That is why you'll see a collage of pictures here, from different attempts to get this down. Some days it worked, some days it didn't. I tried it with ribbons and without. But all in all, it's something different to do! Here's my best (and first-go figure) version:
Begin (if you dare!) with a ponytail in the back.
Split the ponytail into two equal sections.
Think of tying shoelaces here. Oh, and ignore the ribbon.
Do your first bunny ear,
and wrap it around
and pull it through.
Next, to secure your lovely hairbow, take clear elastics and wrap them on either side of the center piece of hair. First on this side:
And then on this side. The trick is to not pull the hair out of the loop when doing this.
If you end up with these pesky tails hanging out (yep, switched ribbon),
Simply pin them up underneath with some of those fabulous mini pins or a regular bobby pin.
And another reasonable job. Ribbon intact.
Don't worry if this takes you 4, 5, or even 6 times, like it does me. All hairdos are a creation, and they always turn out different. That is why it's fun to do hair, right!?

Little Girl's Hairstyles --WELCOME WELCOME!!!

Welcome my Secret's In The Sauce friends!!

Here's a little poem to introduce you to my wee blog and to explain why I do what I do. In honor of all you mothers with little girls:

Coil and hiss--writhe and twist--
(Your) hairdo won't get done.
'Cause one hair's hissing, "Ponytail,"
And one yells, "Simple Bun."
One whispers, "Cornrows,"
One screams, "Bangs."
One shouts, "Just wash and dry it."
One snaps, "No , curl and tie it,"
One hollers, "Bleach and dye it."
And how am I to fix (your) hair
If (your) hair will not keep quiet?

Shel Silverstein "Medusa"

Little Girl's Hairstyles - Side Puffy Braid with Twist Braid 10-15 min

I saw this style on "So You Think You Can Dance" last season, and have been filing it away. This is a great one for your girls who have short hair, since you can modify the twist braid on the side into just another ponytail. Puffy braids are always super for short hair, especially since there's so much variety when doing them. (This also works great for long hair too!)
I started with a side part in the front to the crown, and then combed back the rest of her hair and clipped it off so it wouldn't get pulled in to any of the puffy braids. And of course, her hair is damp!
On the larger side of the part, I made two small ponytails, about an inch wide and deep.
The next section down, I made three ponytail sections, splitting the first two in half and joining them in the middle.
On the next row, I did two ponytails again, making the same size as the first row, and split the middle ponytail again and joined them.
Once I got to this point, I resprayed the hair remaining, prepping it for a twist braid. This is where you can rejoin the two ponytails into just one, if you have shorter hair to work with, or leave it. Do whatever you think looks best according to the hair you have left.
I decided to do a twist braid with the two remaining sections.
I round brushed the back of her hair.
And she's done! Be sure to check back tomorrow! It's my day to be SITS!!! Hurray!!

Little Girl's Hairstyles - A Dance Do: Twist Braid Bun 7-10 Min

This one is in honor of all you moms who lovingly help their dearest darlings pull on tights and leotards 2 or 3 times a week and drive to the dance studio to watch their princesses bounce around to the best of Disney songs. And you do it all with pride and joy! Right? Right! I know, I do it for both of my gals, and I love every dancey dance minute of it. Nothing's cuter than when they put on those leotards and tights and ballet shoes.

SO, they need some cute-out-of-the-face-ballerina-hair that's fast and easy to match. This is what my littlest princess wears to her big 4 year old class:

It's SO easy and fast! Pull the hair back into a high ponytail, hair thoroughly damp.
Divide the ponytail evenly into two sections of hair.
Do 2 twist braids in the ponytail, and feel free to tie a big red ribbon around the ponytail. For the most part, just ignore the ribbon. It was purely experimental.
After your twist braids are finished, let me direct your attention to some fabulous hair tools: Mini Pins OR teeny tiny bobby pins that works superbly in little girl's hairstyles! Their hold is amazing, and just the right size for their little heads (see below). This is what I use to hold in her bun.
Take one of the twist braids and start wrapping it around the base of the ponytail.
Wrap the twist braid until the end,
and secure with a mini pin. It works better if you stick the bobby pin down INTO the bun, rather than placing it next to the bun, as I'm doing here.
Next, take the second twist braid and wrap it around the bun in the opposite direction that you wrapped the first braid.
And secure the ends in the same way. Use as many bobby pins as you need to around the base of the bun until it's secure.
If you've cleverly incorporated your ribbon in as I've done here, all you have to do is tie it! :) Otherwise wrap one around at the end, and she's all set!
Happy Dancing!
