Little Girl's Hairstyles --I want to see your pictures!

Ladies! I know those that visit my blog, along with other hair blogs, work hard on all this hair! Now is the time to show it off!
I want to see your 'headshots'. This time let's do first day of school (or preschool, or first pigtails, or first anything!).
Excited to see what you share! Send pics to girlzhair@gmail.com, or you can post them on my Facebook page: Pretty Hair is Fun!

Happy picture taking!

Oh, and here's what we picked for our school pic hairdo:
Double Twists with Waves
We had one with straight hair, and one with wavy. I'll post some pics when we get them!

Little Girl's Hairstyles - How to do hair for School Pics!

I don't know about the rest of you, but School Picture Day is probably one of my most stressful mornings (pathetic, I know). I stress because:
1: I can't be there to rearrange, comb, spritz anything back into place, and
2: how do I get the hair to STICK, look natural, but not move until it's picture time?
I justify my erratic and tense behavior because, as I tell my girls, "I'm paying for these, so I want them to be PERFECT." So, now that you are feeling sorry for my children, let me share with you some possible ideas, that I think would be SUPERB for picture day.

I really really like my girls' hair down for pictures. I think that if I'm going to do something fancy, it should be visible, and since most of my fancy stuff is in the BACK of the head, it does nothing for their pictures, which I really want to show off their cute little faces. So, here's some of my favorites, with the hair down, that I think we'll be choosing from, since our picture day is tomorrow!
But, I know some of you may want to have the hair up, so I've picked a few faves for you too. They are at the end. Enjoy! Good luck with your morning!
Hair Down
Rosettes/Twist Bun Headband  (I will be sharing a video on how to make the actual headbands soon!)

Hair Up
If you wanted to eliminate the top twists, I think a side bun with a flower would be adorable for pictures as well. I'm leaning towards this hairdo myself.....

Little Girl's Hairstyles - How to do a Puffy Braid Updo 10-15 Min

Well hi there..........I've been away for a while! It's been such a crazy last few weeks. My daughter started a new school, we've had family visiting, and I've just had other duties taking priority! But I hope to redeem myself and start posting regularly once again!

Here's a fun one that I saw on a little girl when we were at the library. I'm sure she thought I was odd as I kept glancing at her trying to 'understand' her hairdo so I could go home and do it myself!
Basically, this is just an upside down puffy braid, that starts at the base of her neck and travels up to a messy/stuffed bun up top. There is a front ponytail that will join the bun at the top as well. Begin by parting off the lowest ponytail section and clipping off the rest up top. Of course I do this with damp hair!
After doing this section, and the next section above it and putting them into puffy braids (shown below), I part off the top and frontmost ponytail, as pictured. In retrospect, I think I'd do a pull thru ponytail on the top, so it would lay flatter. Either works!
Then you are left with one last section, which is where you will join the bottom two puffy braid ponytails and the front ponytail.
Gather it tightly into a messy stuffed bun. If you want to watch the video on how I do this, go HERE.
Here's a pic of those nifty little bobby pins I love so much,
and how I'm using them to pin up sections of her stuffed bun to make it look more messy.
Voila!
Neat and tidy, cute and fast! Just how we like them!

Happy School Days moms and gals! Where did summer go!? My gal is already on her second week!

Little Girl's Hairstyles--How to do a Triple French Braid- 10-15 min

Hi ladies! Is anyone else feeling overwhelmed by school starting up again so soon!? We only have a week left, and I'm fully in denial! But the good thing about school starting is that means I'll be back on a schedule, and that means I'm going to be blogging more consistently! I've really been a slacker this summer, but hey, what is summertime for if not to break away from the mad routines of life, right!? I hope you all have been having lots of fun with your kids--school age or not.

So here' s something we tried out. This was a tester hairdo, to see how it would look (as so many of them are!). My vote is:
1: This would look BETTER on shorter hair, allowing the braids to show more.
2: Next time I'll loop up the braids, attaching it back to the point where the braid is loose from the head.
I first parted off (wet hair) the first of three sections from ear to ear.
I did an inside out braid, and braided down to the ends of her hair.
I continued down her head, parting off the second section making it even in size. I then did two more braids in the next two sections, braiding the hair down to the ends.
This is how I think this style would look SO cute on shorter hair, since the braids wouldn't as long. If your daughter's hair is long like hers, then you can try the looping up. I gathered the three braids together at her neck and tied it with a ribbon, BUT we both decided we didn't love that either. So we decided to just let them hang, which was my munchkin's first choice.
And happy here we are!

And...down here, yes, down below..........these are my latest FAVE books!! Check out these great prices! I've been telling EVERYONE about The Help--it's such a great read, especially for us ladies. Go pick up a copy TODAY!

Little Girl's Hairstyles- How to do a Twist Braid Updo Video Tutorial

One of you fantastic ladies asked if I could do a video on an updo, and one that could be used at a wedding. Well, I hope this passes wedding muster! I've always been partial to hair piled up top with curls cascading down. Add in a ribbon and some baby's breath, and I think this will be fancy enough to throw out some rose petals!
I want to say a big THANK YOU to my sweet 7 year old too, she filmed this video for me! It was lengthy too (the filming), and she did pretty darn good I think (this will explain some of the bouncy bounce)! Thanks punkin!
AND, I apologize that the video is broken in two parts. You Tube did not like the length of my original, so I had to divide it.

One thing I wished I'd tried for video is this: Hot glue some little silk flowers on bobby pins and pin them around the ponytail up top. Match it to her dress! You can also use wide ribbon or even do 2 ribbons encircling her head.

Happy wedding day! Send us some pics!
