Little Girl's Hairstyles - How to do a Minnie Mouse Hair Do 7-10 min

How to make your child's hair look like Minnie Mouse....or so says my husband when he saw my daughter today! This is similar to the poof I used in the Thumbelina hair do a little while back. It's seriously so easy I didn't put step by step pictures, but I'll still explain what I did.
I parted her (wet) hair in front middle back to her crown. I put in two elastics, and on the last pull through, I only pulled up about 2 inches of hair (less or more depending on your daughter's hair length). This is the same thing you do in the Thumbelina hairdo. Fan out the part you've left. This makes the 'ears'.

Then make another parting in the middle back of her head, and put in a single elastic.
Then I gathered all the rest of the hair into another low ponytail, and put it into a stuffed bun, or you can do a messy bun.
That's it! I put in two darling bows I got from Angela's Accessories, and she added her own dash of sass, and she's done!

How to make your own Liquid or Powdered Laundry Detergent!

Did you ever think I'd try to teach you something other than how to do hairstyles?? Me either! But, the more I do this blog, the more I want to share other things that are important to me. One of those things is being prepared. Prepared for emergencies, for financial crisis, or just for regular life! I've shared a video recently about provident living, which I think is especially important, if we mean to take care of ourselves and our families. So, I'm going to try and share handy tips that I've learned from time to time.
The first thing was shared with me by my most capable neighbor, who I swear can make anything. She had me over one night and we whipped up a batch of laundry soap in under 10 minutes. It's cheap, fast, and easy! Just what I like!
Here's what you need for Powdered Laundry Detergent: (For around $10)

1 cup grated soap bar (Fels-Naptha or Ivory work best)
1 cup Washing Soda
1 cup Borax
Mix all ingredients.
For light load use 1 TBS. For heavy or soiled loads, use 2 TBS.
Makes enough for approx. 40 loads.

For Liquid Laundry Detergent:

Same ingredients as above + 4 cups hot tap water

Add grated soap to saucepan with 4 cups of hot tap water. Stir continually over medium heat until soap dissolves and is melted.
Fill a 5 gallon bucket half full of hot tap water. Add melted soap, washing soda and Borax. Stir well until all powder is dissolved. Fill bucket to top with more hot water. Stir, cover, and let sit and cool to thicken overnight.
Liquid soap makes 5 gallons.
Top load machine: use about 2/3 cup per load (approx. 90 loads)
Front load machine: use about 1/4 cup per load (approx. 320 loads)

That's it! It's fast, and lasts a long time. When you want to make another batch, you only need to buy more bar soap. The washing soda and Borax last for another 4-5 batches.

Little Girl's Hairstyles - How to do a twist bun with pull thru ponys 10-15 min

Happy Earth Day! Go out and enjoy the fresh air and clean earth. It just rained here and it's so beautiful outside. I'm thankful for our beautiful earth, and sunshine we are having! Enjoy!

This is a two part hairdo, which means it's a hairdo for either long or short hair. Since the top request I get is "What ideas do you have for short hair?", I am trying to incorporate more of those shorter hair do's in. SO, here we go!
Make a ponytail in the front, about halfway to her crown, and the middle third of her forehead.
Make this a pull thru ponytail.
Make two more ponytails, on either side of the first, and make those pull thru ponytails as well.
Next, part off the rest of the hair to the crown, and comb to the middle for a ponytail.
Twist wet hair as shown, until the whole ponytail is twisted.
Wrap the twist around the elastic holding the ponytail until you've wrapped in the ends of the hair.
Using bobby pins, secure the twist bun by grabbing a section of the bottom twist and pushing towards the center. This is the first of two ways you can secure a twist bun.
For shorter hair, this is where you can stop, and either curl the rest of her hair, round brush it, or what have you.
For longer hair, you can continue on with parting it down the center in the back.
Making two ponytails.
And twisting those into twist buns as well. Here is the second way you can secure your twist buns, which I recommend for any that aren't laying on top of the head. Wrap a clear elastic around bun, trying to stay close to the base, but grabbing enough of the twists so it stays in.
And that's all! You can always do as many of these cute little twist buns as you like. My daughter was done after the first one today. :)

Little Girl's Hairstyles -- How to use a 4 strand braid with a French Braid! 15-20 min

SO, now that you all know how to do a 4 strand braid, here's how to put it in a hair do with a french braid! This is a great style for long hair, but you could work in a shorter length as well.
I really love any kind of braiding done up by the face, and I know I do styles similar to this often. BUT what can I say? I like it! So for this hairdo, I parted off a side part to the crown, and then crosswise down to the ears, and clipped off the back. And of course, I worked with wet hair.
I began french braiding, angling it toward her ear.
And I continued the braid down far enough to reach back into a ponytail. You could also join the two side braids down underneath the ponytail if you like.
Same french braid on the other side.
Next I combed back all the remaining hair into a low ponytail,
and brought in my two side braids.
Then I did a 4 strand braid in her ponytail!
Put in a cute bow, and she's done!

Little Girl's Hairstyles - How to do a 4 Strand Braid Video Tutorial

Little Girl's Hairstyles - Uneven Braid 5-7 min

So hi! I've been absentee for a while! My little gal had spring break and we were off playing--but now it's back to business!
Here's an oldie and a goodie. I saw a little girl at my daughter's dance class with these braids, and I thought, "Oh, that's cute!" And then, after I looked at it a bit longer, I realized, "Hey, I know how to do that!" So, with that being said, here's an EASY do (if you can braid, you can do this!), and it caught even my callused hairdo eye, figuratively speaking of course.
I am putting in a bit on parting here, since it's something I get asked from time to time how to do effectively (ie smoothly). First, comb/brush out the hair well. Second, part the hair, placing your thumb of one hand in the indent in her neck for reference, then bring the comb down to your thumb. This will help get it in the center. Last, spray the hair after you part it, and then comb away from the part. The wet hair will stay parted while you work on one side.
On this hairdo, I did an angle part to the crown.
I did two ponytails. You don't have to for this braid, but it makes handling the hair a bit easier.
To begin the braid, which is just a regular 3 strand braid, but with uneven sections, divide the hair into 3 sections: 2 small, 1 large. I like to take my 2 smaller sections from the same side, and I try to get some of the longest hairs in each, so I pull from under the ponytail, if possible. I do this since it takes much more hair to wrap around the biggest section, and I have to end the braid sooner than normal. If you can work in some longer sections, like from the middle, your braid will be longer. Also, the smaller the sections, the shorter the braid as well. BUT, the smaller the sections, the better the braid looks (in my opinion).
And begin braiding...
I always spray the undersides and topsides of braids with hairspray when I'm done, to give it some hold, and you are done!
Her cute flower is from Angela's Accessories.

Oh, and be sure to look down there at the new Stephenie Meyer novel! You can reserve it today! I just did mine!
