Little Girl's Hairstyles: Winter Hair Care Tips

If any of you live in my same dry dry climate, you know that it can be hard on your hair, as well as your little ones. Here's some general tips that can benefit those flowing locks this winter:

  1. Don't go outside with damp or wet hair in the winter. Your hair could freeze, and if it's chilly enough, hair can breakoff. Wear a scarf and/or hat to protect wet hair (if it's a must), and use a good daily conditioner (or don't wash every single day!).
  2. Glossy hair is a reflection of your inner health. Take vitamins (yes for kids!), exercise, drink lots of water, avoid stress and smoking, and eat those veggies!
  3. Cotton hats are easier on your hair, as they create less static than wool or acrylic. You could try a cotton scarf under a wool hat as well.
  4. And remember, when using those high heat hair devices, always use a good heat protectant on your hair. It will help keep the moisture in that heat zaps away.
  5. Static filled hair usually equals dry hair. A quick rub from roots to ends with dryer sheets work great, but again, great daily conditioners or deep conditions 1 or 2x per week are helpful too!

Happy Winter days outside! Building snowman, sledding, ice skating= all great for happy healty kids (and hair!).

Little Girl's Hairstyles- Blast from the past: Daisy Chain Braid or Knotted Braid

Hi Friends! I get a lot of questions from readers about certain ideas or hairdos, and so much of the time, I've done a hairdo in the past that would be perfect for them. SO, every now and then, I'm going to bring 'round a "Blast from the past" and showcase some of my older posts, just to remind and refresh us on some past ideas!
This one has been a big hit, since I posted it over a year ago, and someone mentioned it and asked about it recently, so I chose this as my first "Blast".
I nicknamed it the Daisy Chain Braid, but it's just a knotted braid. We love it, and the gals love the compliments they get when they have it in!

Here's the VIDEO for the Daisy Chain Braid!

Little Girl's Hairstyles - LOOK what we did!! Triple Twist Braids 5-7 min

Well, just look what we did:
If it's not immediately obvious, we cut off about 10 inches off my oldest daughter's hair! This actually did happen a while ago.....since this picture of her was taken in her Halloween costume (ha ha), and I've just been slow at getting it up here. It has been FUN having a gal with a head of short hair (and FASTER thank goodness). We've had a good time coming up with different ideas to do with her now short bob. So here's one of first samplings:

Hanging Triple Twist Braids:

I initially parted off her hair on one side (first a side part), and then back to her ears. I then sectioned that part into three sections, as you can see here, diagonal partings. I then did small (much smaller than I'm used to!) twist braids in the middle of each section.
I then did some corkscrew curls in the back with my 1/2 inch curling iron, and finger combed them after.
I think she's darling! It's given us a whole new sense of fun when it comes to hairdoing time! It's been interesting to experiment with hair this length--and find out that yes, ponytails are still possible! I'd love your greatest ideas on this length of hair!
Hurray for short hair!

How to do girl's hairstyles: Triple Twist Braid Ponytails 7-10 min

A fast easy hairdo for those little gals who just beg for "just a ponytail, puh-leeze!?", like my little gal does EVERY day.

I parted off her hair straight down the middle to begin with (and of course, the hair is damp). I clipped off one side, and then parted off one side into two ponytails, in the middle of her head. Repeat on the other side.
I kept all the hair from one outside ponytails, and divided the inside pony next to it in half, and did a twist braid. Next, join the inside halves of the middle two ponys and do twist braid no. 2.
Finish with twist braid no. 3 using the other side in the same manner, to end up with 3 total twists braids. I spray the tops and undersides of my braids with hairspray, and they are out the bathroom door!
