Little Girl's Hairstyles: Off centered braid and twist hairstyle no. 3: 15-20 min

My last example (for a while) of the off-centered braid and twist. This is the basic beginning that I shared in my first post in this series. (Check out my last two posts).

I begin with the french braid, and the twist on the side, and join them in the back. I used my waver again on the rest of her hair. You could also do some flat iron waves, or corkscrew curls, or just flat iron it straight as well.
This is another cute one for Easter, and gives you great hair to show off some of those great big flowers or bows that match their dresses.

This is it friends......for on Wednesday (at the latest) I'm going in to have my baby girl! I have some posts with videos planned however, until I can get back to doing hair and hopefully being normal again! Have a great week and wish me luck!

Little Girl's Hairstyles: Off-centered french twist braids 15-20 min

Got any big plans for spring break? Ours is coming next week, and it will just be baby land in our house. My girls are so excited to be little mommy's helpers and take care of their baby sister they are about ready to burst. It is so thrilling for me to see their anticipation. :)

Here's the second hairstyle I promised using the off-centered braid and twist idea that I shared in my last post.
Off centered french twist braids:
I split the larger parted off section into two equal parts, and instead of doing a french braid, I did a french twist braid (see my video on how to do french twist braids). I crossed the top twist over the second when bringing it back to the center (or off center) of her head.  I did the same regular twist on the smaller side, like in the previous post, and joined them together.
I used my waver to finish off the rest of her hair and added a big bow.  She's all ready for preschool!
A pretty and fun Easter hairdo to keep in mind!

Little Girl's Hairstyles - Valentine's Day Dos! 10-15 min

Valentine's Day Hairstyles!!
I had a most lovely email from a reader who sent me her cute Valentine's hairstyle! Look at this:
Here's what Jo said: i love your site ! here's one u can try & have been doing this to my girl for about 10 years... this pic is the next door neighbor's lil girl i just did b4 school today (v-day party today at school) did my girl too but her pic wasn't as clear & her hair is longer wanted to show it works on shorter hair too... thanks for all the ideas & hope u enjoy this one... the part is the key btw... & i only pull from the top so the braid floats a lil... peace
Thanks a million Jo!! She did such a great job on this hairstyle!!

Here's my submission to the land of hearts and cupids! Start off with a small zig zag part to the crown, and make two hig ponys.
Put in two twist braids on each side.
Join the two twist braids closest to the center in the middle of her head.
Next, join the two outside twist braids down low on her head, forming your heart. You can do this with regular braids, fish tail braids, whatever you want to do.
I used my wave iron on the rest of her head, and stuck in this gorgeous bow from Flowerz In Her Hair.
Happy Valentine's Day!!

Little Girl's Hairstyles - Daisy Chain Braid with a WAVER 10-15 Min

Here's a zippy and cute do that is doable before school! I did it one morning AND took pictures, and got her on the bus. Sorry abut the bluish tint to my pictures here. My bathroom lights stink for picture taking. But the show must go on...
For this fun and fancy one, I started with a side part back to her crown.
I then angle parted the larger section, and clipped off the middle area. I did spritz these little sections with water before I began my braid.
I did a daisy chain braid down to her ear and put in an elastic.
I did another braid in the middle section, angling towards the same direction as the first.
And then, I got out my WAVER. And yes,  I LOVE it! I found this one in a clearance bin at Ross, and you would have thought I'd found a $100 bill buried in that bin. You see, long ago I had ye old crimping iron (1980 called and wanted it back), and I have since yard saled or DI'ed it, and have regretted it ever since. I didn't love the crimpled look, but I just loved the idea of the crimper. Nice, evenly distributed waves, not induced by an hour and a half of braiding. I've searched high and low for one that I liked (I don't like, I repeat, I don't like using the 3 barrel thingamajig) and was easy to use. SO, I'm telling you all this so that when the day comes and you find your waver buried in a bin, you will be as happy as I was! They are FABULOUS! Here's what Bessie (this is what I've named her since she's so beloved now) looks like:
See the nice deep waves? And it has temperature settings so you adjust it according to the type of hair you are using it on.
To begin waving I parted off her hair into small  sections. I comb the hair out first, and lightly mist that section with hairspray, comb again, and then pick up my first piece to wave.
This waver gets extremely hot, so to protect her little noggin, I place the comb right next to her head when I use the waver up close.
Do each piece evenly, and always spray with hairspray before. This will help keep it in throughout the day. When you have waved all her hair, very lightly comb through from underneath, and only if necessary. If you've combed the piece out beforehand, it shouldn't need much.
And voila!

Little Girl's Hairstyles -The Quad 15-20 min

This idea....like so many others, started out as something else. Then I got stumped. My husband, seeing my dilemma, offered an oh-so-timid suggestion. I thought, "what the heck", and tried it out, and voila! Sometimes it works, sometimes it's a quick ponytail day. Luckily for me, this one turned out nicely (especially since I was in a NOT so nice mood already. Another story for another time.Good hair = nicer mommy).
Start with the usual super soaked head. Part off front section to middle of ears like so.
I did an inside out braid (of course) just in the middle of the section, and braided down as far as I could.
I did the same on the other side, and pulled them together low in the back. Pull them tight when securing them with the elastic.
Next, I flipped those braids back over her face (oh they love that), and parted the rest down the middle. To begin the french braid, I parted off a small section on an angle, since I wanted this to angle down around the curve of her head, and not just straight down (thus showing off the joined braids more).
French braid down a little past her head, and secure with pony. I flipped back over the joined braids for the full effect here.
Do a matching french braid on the other side.
Braid down past her hairline again (this helps keep those little neck hairs from being pulled on when you slap it all together).
Use your third hand, and pull them all together. If you are feeling adventurous, you could braid the tail of the joined braids down past the elastic......but like I said, my mood was not an adventurous one at the time.
Pull it all in nicely, and then I braided the bottom portion. If the hair isn't long enough, then you can skip this part and leave it in a pony.
And Kapow! I was secretly thrilled on my insides with how cute it turned out. I love when I can admire my work all day long. Which is what I did with this one. It was just that cute.
See? She knows Mom is happy at this point.

Want to know the best part about this hair style? It turned out to be a two day do. It stayed in well through the night, and in the morning, I undid all the braids, pulled the two front sections into little ponys. Because these two smaller sections were way more kinky than the rest, I just pulled them back into a low pony, like they were in the joined braids, and stuck a bow in it. It was marvelous for church. Fast and lovely.

Little Girl's Hairstyles -Double twist braids with soft tousled waves 3-5 min

This is what I did with her hair the day after I did the corkscrew curls with the pull through ponys (see post).
We like to call this her mermaid hair, so she sported her Ariel swimsuit for the occasion.
Back view (post-Ariel). I don't think the pictures do these soft tousled waves justice. They look D-A-R-L-I-N-G.
Top view of what the twists will look like.
To start, I used the same part from the pull through ponys, and finger combed it down, since I didn't want to pull out the curls.
I parted off two ponys, like this, leaving one small. This will be for your twist braids. I also sprayed hairspray on the pieces before I combed them into ponys, to smooth up the little baby hairs.
I did twist braids on both ponys, securing them down with a bobby pin until I was ready to join them in the other pony. See the label 'twist braid' to learn how to do these. Since the hair was dry, and harder to handle than when it's wet, I sprayed each section again with hairspray to make them stay in place as I was twisting the braids.
I parted off the rest of the larger side, and pulled in the two twist braids.
With a bow
Beautiful soft tousled waves! ( I don't know what's up with the color in these pictures--like I've said, I'm NOT a photographer.)
Here's another super fast option after sleeping in the corkscrew curls. Smooth down from the initial part, spray with a little hairspray, and stick in a headband. This is always her first choice for a hair style!
