Little Girl's Hairstyles: Video Tutorial: How to use soft foam (or sponge) curlers

Hi ladies! I am setting this post up pre-baby, so hopefully it will come through on time, and won't have any problems.
Using the soft or sponge/foam curlers in my girls' hair is pretty routine in our household, especially when we know we'll be having some major hair-doing event in the morning, and I know I"ll be trying to prepare 3 heads of hair. We use these for church hairdos and lately, for my oldest's dance competition hairdo's. Here's a few examples of the cute bouncy curls you get from using these great soft curlers:

Just after taking out the soft curlers:
 Finished hairdo:
A curly bun with all the curls pulled up on top in a high ponytail: (I'll be posting how to do this hairstyle later on).
These are great to use for those Easter Sunday hairdos!! Try them out with the off centered braids and twists I've been sharing lately. Just roll her hair the night before, then do the braids/twists then next morning. ***Just remember***don't roll WET hair, unless you plan on spending a fair amount of time blow drying the curlers while in her hair. I always blow dry their hair after their baths, then put in the soft curlers. Adding a little gel before blow drying also helps add shine and helps control frizz.

Have a great weekend!!

Little Girl's Hairstyles: Off centered braid and twist hairstyle no. 3: 15-20 min

My last example (for a while) of the off-centered braid and twist. This is the basic beginning that I shared in my first post in this series. (Check out my last two posts).

I begin with the french braid, and the twist on the side, and join them in the back. I used my waver again on the rest of her hair. You could also do some flat iron waves, or corkscrew curls, or just flat iron it straight as well.
This is another cute one for Easter, and gives you great hair to show off some of those great big flowers or bows that match their dresses.

This is it friends......for on Wednesday (at the latest) I'm going in to have my baby girl! I have some posts with videos planned however, until I can get back to doing hair and hopefully being normal again! Have a great week and wish me luck!

Little Girl's Hairstyles: Off-centered french twist braids 15-20 min

Got any big plans for spring break? Ours is coming next week, and it will just be baby land in our house. My girls are so excited to be little mommy's helpers and take care of their baby sister they are about ready to burst. It is so thrilling for me to see their anticipation. :)

Here's the second hairstyle I promised using the off-centered braid and twist idea that I shared in my last post.
Off centered french twist braids:
I split the larger parted off section into two equal parts, and instead of doing a french braid, I did a french twist braid (see my video on how to do french twist braids). I crossed the top twist over the second when bringing it back to the center (or off center) of her head.  I did the same regular twist on the smaller side, like in the previous post, and joined them together.
I used my waver to finish off the rest of her hair and added a big bow.  She's all ready for preschool!
A pretty and fun Easter hairdo to keep in mind!

Little Girl's Hairstyles: St. Patrick's Hairdo: The Shamrock Hairdo 10-15 min

The Shamrock Hairdo

I've been browsing some other hair blogs to see their takes on the 'clover' (because, really, what else can you do for St. Paddy's? A leprechaun perched on their head?), and all the hairstyles were frankly just too complex for me! Perhaps because I'm pregnant, or lazy, or the combo of the two, so I had to do something a little easier and faster (they were all super cute--but just TOO much work for me!). You can do this with whatever kind of braid you are in the mood for. I opt for a twist braid because it's FAST!

First, I start with thoroughly dampened hair, and comb it all back into a mid-height ponytail.
Then since I was going only for a 3 leaf clover, I did three twist braids. You can see my video on twist braids to learn how to do them if necessary. I did one twist braid from the top portion of the ponytail, and then split the underneath into two sections.
I then made a 'stem' by ponytailing off a low section. Where you put this secondary elastic will depend on the length of your braids. I did my other daughter's hair, which is much shorter, and so her 'stem' is much shorter as well.
I then brought the 'stem' portion up to the middle or base of the ponytail like pictured, and then laid the twist braids out like the leaves of the clover.
I then used bobby pins to hold them in place. You may want to crisscross two where I show this one.
Pin all three (or four if you want a 4 leaf) in place well.
Then I stuck two bobby pins down through the base of the ponytail and the top part of the stem to hold it in place.

I added a green bow at the top of the stem.

Now for the short hair version: My older daughter's hair just touches the tops of her shoulders. Here's her twist braids pinned up into the leaf sections. Notice how short her 'stem' is. I bobby pinned these braids to each other, rather than to her head, and then down through the base of the ponytail again. I liked how they stood up!

I may want to trim this ribbon before I use it again.....but it's all ok!

A Irish Wish for a Friend

Wishing you a rainbow
For sunlight after showers—
Miles and miles of Irish smiles
For golden happy hours—
Shamrocks at your doorway
For luck and laughter too,
And a host of friends that never ends
Each day your whole life through!

Happy St. Patrick's Day to you!

How to do girl's hairstyles: October's Creative Genius!

This month's Creative Genius shares an adorable Flower Fairy Hairdo, which I thought was so cute and just in time for Halloween!
Her name is Angela Jones, and if you are a regular visitor to my Facebook page, you will have seen one of the many fabulous hairdos she regularly posts there. I saw this one and knew this one was just perfect for those of you asking for Fairy hairdos for Halloween.

Thanks Angela! And the rest of you, feel free to share any pics of Halloween hairdos any of you have done this year, including this one or Rapunzel!

To start the Flower Fairy Hairdo:
Part hair into 2 ponytails & flip them under as seen.
Split top hair into 4 pieces & tie a loose knot in each.
Take the 4 pieces & add them together, at the top join them together using a bobby pin & pin them to the top of the scalp.
Because the knots are loose they can be moved & pinned into desired shape seen here.
Next, move onto the bottom ponytail, take sections & curl them using a curling iron.
Pin up each curled section as desired adding flowers as you go.
Pin the sections making your way up to the top so as to join the two ponytails.
After you have your curls sitting were you want, add the desired accessories, you can leave the sides or little curls hanging down if you like & we are done.

SOOOOOO cute! Thanks again Angela, and to the rest of you who sent in pictures! Keep them coming! I consider ALL I've received when picking out the next month's CG.
Happy Halloween! Be safe, be warm, and have fun!

How to do girl's hairstyles : How to do a Rapunzel hairdo for Halloween 7-10 min

It's Rapunzel!

My little gal wants to be Rapunzel for Halloween, and although she has long hair, it's not nearly long enough for Rapunzel! We had to be a little creative for her hair, and I thought I'd share it with you....in case any of your princesses want to be the same. It's an easy cheap costume and turned out pretty darn cute! Here's the  final outfit:
For Rapunzel's hair, I first braided her own hair back into a high pony, and then braided her ponytail.
I then wrapped the braid around itself, and bobby pinned it in.
Use as many as you need to secure it well.
I purchased some yarn that was close (compared to the other colors!) to her hair color (this is what was left after we made the braid).
We made a braid out of the yarn that was about twice as tall as she was. To get that approximate length, I cut about 50 strands (to make it nice and thick) about 9 feet in length, or 3x her height. My finished braid was about 2/3 of that. I wanted enough to wrap around her head, and then hang down.
To secure the braid, I wrapped one end of the braid under her already wrapped braid, and bobby pinned it in.
I then wrapped it about 4 times (or until you get the right amount left that you want to hang down), bobby pinning as I went.
When I got it to where I wanted it to go over her shoulder, I bobby pinned it like so, in the back middle of the bun.
I used 2-3 bobby pins to keep it in tight.
She put on one of her dress-ups and voila! Rapunzel!

We'll add in some jewelry and of course some makeup (her favorite part of Halloween) come parties and trick or treating this week, but I was pleased with the results!
Happy costume making!
